You’re Under Weight and Drink Too Much – Study Damns Mobile Poker Players’ Lifestyles
The Las Vegas based Women in Poker Hall of Fame (WIPHOF) have recently announced that they are seeking nominees to induct into the Hall this year. The ladies chosen in the nomination and selection process will be revealed in July, but WIPHOF appear to have started the ball rolling very early to give everyone a fair chance at nominating their favourite female poker players. So forget Lady Gaga and her poker face; ladies are not just an accessory to rich poker pros’ Instagrams! Nominate your poker idol and perhaps you’ll soon see them in the Women in Poker Hall of Fame 2016 winners list.
A Little Bit Of History
If you had no idea that an organisation such as the WIPHOF existed up until now, let us refresh your minds. Created back in 2007 as a way to promote poker to women, it also had an aim to recognise and honour the many professional poker players which were women. After all, being a poker pro certainly isn’t easy when the absolute majority of the poker player community is male.
In the past, WIPHOF have selected worth nominees to be indicted into the Hall of Fame and since 2008, they’ve included 17 worthy women worthy of the title: Barbara Enright, Linda Johnson, Marsha Waggoner, Susie Isaacs, Cyndi Violette, Jan Fisher, June Field, Jennifer Harman, Kathy Liebert, Billie Brown, Kristy Gazes, Margie Heintz, Phyllis Caro, JJ Liu, Kathy Raymond, Allyn Shulman and Deborah Giardina.
And although no one has been enshrined since 2013 due to the inactivity of WIPHOF, this year sees the organisation come back. That’s a really welcome sight, as sexist attacks on females on social media and in tourneys around the world have reportedly been on the rise.
Who Can Be Nominated
So do you want to get your word in and have a say as to who becomes included into the Hall of Fame this year? It’s pretty easy and you can find all the information and cast your vote here, but we’ve got a brief summary of all the deets for ya. And before you even start thinking of names, consider that the nominees need to fit the following criteria:
- Active player or industry leader for at least 10 years and 35+ years of age
- Nominee must have contributed to the world of poker in a significant way, e.g. winning major tournaments
- Player needs to be a proponent of women in poker
- The Board of Directors and the Inductees committee mus approve all nomines
- Nominees must agree to T&Cs of the WIPHOF
You can nominate two ladies at a time, but you can come back and fill out another form if you got more than two worthy nominees. The top public nomination candidates then move on to be considered by the election panel which includes WIPHOF executives and some media people too. Lastly, mark your calendars, because on July 5th, 2016, there will be a ceremony held in Vegas to induct the brilliant poker women to the Hall of Fame!
